You know those moments when you experience flow? When everything drops away and you lose all track of time? That is what art has done for me my whole life. I have been involved in some form of art since I was young. In high school I sketched in graphite for hours on end. I was drawn to detail: the minute changes of light/shadow and positive/negative space. I mean, as a teenager I was enthralled by positive and negative space. You know for that to happen to an adolescent something magical is going on.
In college my academic interest turned toward plant science. My drawings, which until then were of animals, still lifes, portraits, and people, now turned towards plants. It was the first time nature and my art met and I loved it. I worked on an organic farm and spent time creating drawings of multiple plants commingling on a single stem. I began to create more in my art and leave the rigidity of exact detail behind.
My art took a backseat after college, as career, financial obligations and other interests held sway. In 2012 a magical thing happened. My art bloomed into the realm of color and I began painting professionally thanks to the inspiration of a dear mentor.
I love how life comes round up on itself. After wandering this way and that, I live in a most beautiful part of the country, I paint local landscapes, and I offer the result to you.
In addition to being an artist, I am also a counselor, gardener, and hiker.
